How Did I Get Genital Warts?

Genital warts are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus or otherwise known as HPV. If you are sexual active then you are at risk from contracting the virus. This might not sound possible but it is because genital warts are the most common type std’s. The virus itself is contracted by skin on skin contact in most cases. There have bene instances where genital warts have been contracted by sitting on  a toilet seat but that is very, very rare.

Sometimes genital warts appear and sometimes they don’t, its confusing but that is the way it is. People carry strains of HPV and never see the genital warts appear. You may contract HPV from five years ago and they could appear tomorrow, HPV is unpredictable  like that. If you do see genital warts appear then you should seek professional medical help right away (especially if they become very noticeable like cauliflower and start to bleed)

If you are a woman then you should consider using Gardasil as treatment, this treatment had proven to be very affective in treating women with genital warts. Gardasil prevents women from contracting four strains of HPV. Two of these strains of HPV can cause cervical cancer and the other two cause 90% of the cases of genital warts. If you are under the age of 26 then you should consider this treatment very highly. If you need a second opinion then consult your doctor further.

It is not so much the “how” you got genital warts but the “how” you should treat it that matters. Genital warts don’t have to keep you from living an active sexual lifestyle bare in mind. If you do know, you have genital warts you should tell your partner you do so. You don’t want them wondering what they have because you didn’t tell them. If you are honest with them from the beginning, they will be more inclined to trust you in the future. If not and you keep your genital warts a secret then you might be asking for serious trouble later.
